The use of XBRL forsustainability reporting got a boost recently as the World Bank has startedpublishing its own annual sustainability report in XBRL using the GRI Taxonomy.The World Bank already uses XBRL to prepare Financial Statements and ManagementDiscussion & Analysis documents for the International Bank forRenstruction and Development, and is now extending that to help providestakeholders with a clearer picture of the social,environmental and enomic aspects of the Bank’s activities.

Cyril Muller, VicePresident of WBG External and rporate Relations indicated that using XBRLboth makes the World Bank’s reporting more robust and helps the anisation“define the path towards a more standardized and mplete report of oursustainability practices.” The World Bank worked with Deloitte herlands totag indicators and identify gaps in the information provided by data andntent providers. This step by the World Bank is a welme development andother anisations should take a look at the various sustainability reportingframeworks out there and nsider punching up their reporting in this area aswell.
