The london nference on banking regulation,“Preparing for CRD IV Reporting”,was anised by XBRL UK and XBRL Europe with the support of XBRL international on the 17th of June. The venue was the london hilton on Park lane.
This nference was the regulatory event of 2013.This one day nference was arranged to explore the impact of new regulatory reporting rules under the Capital Requirements Directive (CRD IV)and to bring banks and their advisers up to date with the mpliance requirements under the new regime for banking regulation.
We had a particularly brilliant keynote stage which included Sharon Bowles,Chair of the Enomic and Moary Affairs mittee of the European Parliament,Aurel Schubert,Director General Statistics the European Central Bank, Josémaría Roldán,Director General of Banking Regulation and Financial Stability of the Bank of Spain,Robert Priester,Deputy Chief Executive and Executive Director of the Wholesale and Regulatory Policy Department of the European Banking Federation,as well as senior figures from the EBA,and National Supervisory Authorities. It just goes to show that the level of maturity of XBRL is beginning to reach high enough on the radar screen to attract these influential.
The key messages and information delivered by the speakers were as follows:
•The financial crisis was a failure of regulation and of data llection and interpretation.
•Reporting under CRD IV will be intrusive but is necessary for the health of the financial system.
•The importance of XBRL in providing a nsistent format for data from banks across europe.
•The need for banks to use the EBA’s ITS to validate and improve the quality of their filings.
•The importance of the LEI and ITS use in simplifying the analysis of industry-wide exposure data.
•The role of the European Central Bank
Finally 250 delegates from 23 untries attended the event and the statistics showed almost 100 delegates were from the banking side (bankers, regulators, associations)of which 70 were from within the banking industry. Also we can say we attracted delegates who had never in the past attended one of our XBRL events, and that in itself is a great suess.
We received tremendous feedback from the global delegates, amongst which were:
Europe’s financial sector is on the threshold of widespread mandatory XBRL adoption.Judging from what we heard at the nference,XBRL has already had,but will have an even deeper impact on the banks than on their regulators.
Once again thank you to those who ntributed to the anisation and preparation of this very suessful event.
The presentations and speeches are available on the nference web
