There are standards for all sorts of technologies, nsumer projects, electronics and more.Over ten years ago, after a group of acuntants and others realised the need for a standard means of reporting financial and business information,XBRL was born.Increasingly, however, standards are being developed for the exchange or reporting of business information for specific industries such as healthcare, insurance, real estate etc. And XBRL has me to be used for much more than financial information, with taxonomies for sustainability reporting, rporate actions and more.
If you’re reading this magazine, chances are you already understand the importance of these standards and are using one or more of them. You may be a member of a Standards Development anisation (SDO).If so,you know that these standards are the global foundation for reporting regulations, business analysis, and data exchange. Each standard and in of itself is a valuable tool, but it is increasingly being realised that greater interoperability between these standards would be of extreme value to the anisations that develop them and the users who implement them.It would allow for the development of more powerful applications, rce the reporting burden on rporations, unlock vast amounts of information for easier mparability and analysis and open up new avenues of international operation.
While the benefits of interoperability are well understood and a desirable outme for standards developers and users alike, many hurdles exist to actually achieving interoperability between standards –technical, legal, insufficient resources (many SDOs are volunteer driven)or even just a lack of awareness regarding what different sDos are working on.Fortunately, many of these barriers can be overme with simple operation.
the standards developers forum, being held in madrid, spain on the 19th and 20th of November, is an event aimed at surmounting these hurdles and laying the foundation for interoperability between multiple standards. The event will be a gathering of SDO executives, staff and volunteers ming together to address specification development challenges and opportunities – especially those ncerning interoperability. Attendees will be generating ideas and initiatives for achieving technical (syntactical) interoperability and meanings (semantic) alignment of standards.
As the issue of the relationships between different domains, along with the alignment of language and other terminology is of such critical nature to the actual users of standards,an important feature of the program will be the participation of keynote and panel speakers focused on their unique views and needs. We are expecting several regulators to address this area, including a representative from the european mission who will share their experience, insight and perspective.
The Standards Developers Forum is being presented by ARD,HR-XML,OAGI,OASIS,OMG,SDMX and XBRL international, although all persons and anisations interested in these ics are enuraged to attend. These leading anisations ver many sectors and attendees will not only benefit from their knowledge and expertise, but have the opportunity to foster productive relationships across multiple industries.
Other program elements will facilitate knowledge exchange, initiate llaboration on interoperability and drive discussions that will lead to future initiatives and llaboration and discussion will be supported by regnised speakers, panel discussions and breakout sessions examining interoperability case studies and implementation guidance, development tools for taxonomy maintenance, uml modeling, etc;inhibitors to SDO operation, best practices in specification maintenance and more.
Participants will also be able to interact directly with SDO leadership to help shape llaboration on interoperability agendas and be in a position to directly impact this important dialog. Join us at the standards Developers Forum and:
•Examine how different standards anisations are dealing with emerging technology trends impacting the development and use of standards.
•Set a urse for future anisational llaboration addressing the challenges inherent to standards development and interoperability.
•work with other developers, technologists and users in a llaborative knowledge exchange environment.
