XBRL International (XII) is seeking candidates for the Assurance Committee Chair as part of its scheduled rotation of this leadership position.
Given the nature of XBRL-tagged data and emerging practice related to the accuracy of this data, the scope of the Committee’s work is not limited to the narrowest definition of assurance used by public accountants. Instead, the Committee focuses on a broader context, taking into account the various forms of assurance and related services and processes that lend credibility to the accuracy of XBRL-tagged data.
XII Assurance Committee Goals and Objectives:
1. Provide a forum for the identification, analysis and communication of market needs and issues related to the accuracy of XBRL-tagged data
2. Proactively identify, reach out to and engage influencers, stakeholders, standards setters and regulators as appropriate
3. Serve as the official liaison between market participants and XBRL International on assurance
4. and related matters (coordinate visibility in both the market and within XII leadership and membership)
5. Identify relevant resources, materials, and research on the topic
6. Develop awareness materials (articles and publications) on the accuracy and integrity of information tagged in XBRL format, and the provision of assurance and related services on this information
7. The XII Assurance Committee will not develop standards or related guidance for XBRL assurance
ProcedureAssurance Committee Chair candidates may be nominated by any member of XII and may include selfnominations. The Nominations Committee will conduct interviews after the close of the nominations period. Final candidate recommendation will be presented to the XII Board for approval.
Term
The term of this position is annual with an option for extension by mutual agreement.
The Chair will be expected to:
1. Oversee and participate in the production of relevant materials and overall work of the Committee
2. Work with XII staff to schedule monthly Committee calls and working group calls as needed
3. Prepare agendas and related materials for Committee calls, coordinate Committee member participation in meetings and projects, and lead Committee meetings and calls
4. Periodically report activities to the XII Board and other interested parties
5. Guide the implementation of the Committee goals and objectives
6. Be well qualified in at least one (and preferably more) of the following primary competencies:
l Knowledge of XBRL projects around the world, including assurance and related services
l currently being performed on the accuracy of XBRL-tagged data
l Understanding of XBRL
l Expertise in assurance and related services
l Expertise in data quality
Eligibility
Any XII Eligible Participant may be nominated as a Chair of the Assurance Committee. Individuals may self nominate for this position and no seconder is required. If you are nominating someone else please ensure that they are able to confirm nomination by the deadline.
Deadline for Submissions
The deadline for submitting nominations and candidate statements, and for nominees to confirm they accept nomination, is 2359 UTC, 13 May 2011.
