The China Fund Company Information Disclosure Taxonomies developed by the SSE became the first one of its kind to be accredited by the XBRL International. The XBRL international stated on its official website that the SSE's China Fund Company Taxonomies "are fully compliant with the XBRL Specification" and "represent a broadening of the scope of use of XBRL in China to fund companies". The accreditation was a significant landmark for the SSE in the application of XBRL.

XBRL is the abbreviation of Extensible Business Reporting Language, which was officially launched six years ago. It has attracted great attention and been practiced worldwide by the regulators as it is open, free, extensible and highly compatible. It is learned that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is making great efforts to push forward the use of XBRL. The Tokyo Stock Exchange released 99 XBRL instance documents for the XBRL Pilot Project on its website this year. Deutsche Boerse AG has already launched its XBRL project.

The SSE has tried its best to master the key technologies through detailed analysis of XBRL international standards in the process of promoting the application of XBRL. Based on its innovation system, the SSE combined its own characteristics and achieved a whole set of innovative results like Listed Company and Fund Company Taxonomies with core intellectual property rights, which successively obtained acknowledged status from the XBRL International and were highly recognized by the organization. Under guidance of the China Securities Regulatory Commission and with aid of all parties, the SSE made efforts to promote information disclosure of listed companies on the basis of internationally accredited taxonomies of listed companies and took the lead in application of information disclosure including the full texts and abstracts of annual, semi-annual and quarterly reports.

The SSE started to use XBRL in 2003 and promoted the application step by step according to business demands. Before the use of XBRL standard, documents disclosing listed companies' information were in PDF or Word form, which were similar to image document, containing data hard to be automatically read by computer programs. Therefore, supervisors of the SSE and market analyzers encountered problems of repeated data input and data quality as a result when they wanted to make use of the information disclosed by the SSE. The SSE adopted the strategy of "Step-by-step Promotion", i.e., pilot projects before all-around promotion and to use XBRL first in abstracts and then in full texts. Currently, XBRL is used in all the full texts of periodical reports of listed companies on the SSE, with satisfying effects achieved.

The SSE also was the first to introduce the search function of listed companies' data on the basis of the XBRL standard. Investors can search for list companies' general information, major financial indicators, and detailed data including balance sheets, statements of profit appropriation and statements of cash flow. They can also download instance documents of the constituents of SSE 180 Index and check data for 347 items of 14 data sheets. Moreover, they can directly download relevant XBRL data documents from the SSE website and use software tool to read data for further analysis. In the past, only professionals or investment and consultancy companies were capable of similar analysis.

The SSE also made efforts to develop commercial operation of the accumulated XBRL data information. SSE InfoNet Co., Ltd. has begun business cooperation with Edgar-online and Reuters. Edgar-online announced in January 2006 that it would provide XBRL information of listed companies on the SSE and SZSE and "I-Metrix", a data analysis instrument based on XBRL technology, for global financial institutions, companies and professional consultants. Potential users like Credit Suisse, JiJi Press and potential partners like the Tokyo Stock Exchange and India software merchants also made inquiries and communicated with SSE InfoNet about future cooperation on the 13th XBRL International Conference held in May 2006.
